Dr Catherine Horwood is a social historian who specialises in women and horticulture. She is co-curator of the exhibition Gardening Women, currently running at Sissinghurst Castle (National Trust) until mid-October, based on her book of the same name. The exhibition looks at the development of women’s horticultural education and the influence of the suffrage movement.
She is also the authorised biographer of the great gardener and plantswoman, Beth Chatto, whose death was recently announced. The book is expected to be published in 2019.
